It is designed to prevent the horse from crossing its jaw and evading the bit while allowing for maximum airflow and comfort around the nose.

Figure 8 Noseband (Grackle): The defining feature of this bridle is its figure 8 noseband, which crosses over the horse’s nose in an “X” shape. It secures below the bit, helping to prevent the horse from opening its mouth or crossing its jaw to evade contact.
